COOL EARTH'S VISION IS A WORLD WHERE TROPICAL DEFORESTATION AND DEGRADATION HAS NO ROLE IN CLIMATE CHANGE.

Rainforest is our global safety net. Supporting local people to protect it is the smartest, most positive climate action there is.

We all rely on rainforest, no matter where we may be. Balancing the climate, protecting wildlife and supporting society; its importance cannot be understated.

From our first village partner of Cutivireni, we’re now working with four Asháninka partnerships in Peru’s Ene Valley, supporting indigenous communities to develop sustainable livelihoods and protect rainforest from encroaching threats.

The Asháninka partnership is located across the Ene Valley. It is one of the biggest coca-growing areas in Peru, exploiting the areas and routes influenced by the Shining Path’s presence in the area during the 1980s and 1990s. The area is known to have high childhood malnutrition and poverty rates.

One of the largest indigenous groups in South America, Asháninka territory is found in the forests of the Central Amazon region of Peru and in the State of Acre, Brazil.

The Asháninka language belongs to the largest language family in South America. The ratio of verbs to nouns in the Asháninka language is about four to one and is strongly correlated to legends, such as when determining gender for animals, it depends upon whether the animal was believed to be male or female when they were human, before they transformed into their animal state.

A central theme to the Asháninka way of life is “good life” or “Kametsa Asaika” which is based on eight principles relating to culture, food and land security, harmony with nature, peace, sustainability, health, education and representation.
